Important Dates
Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) - 7 month window beginning the month of your birthday, the 3 months before, and the 3 months after.
Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) - Always occurs from October 15th to December 7th. Change your Part D and Medicare Advantage Plan for January 1st effective date.
Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment - Always occurs from January 1st to March 31st. Only available to those currently with an advantage plan, and can only be used once per year.
A health plan is only worth the money if it works for you.
Has your Medicare Supplement premium increased?
Medicare Supplement plans are standardized, meaning a Plan F, Plan G, or any other plan type is the same across all companies that offer that plan type - you are picking a company and a premium you are comfortable paying.
New Guarantee Issue laws have been passed in many states to allow policyholders to change their supplement plans without the risk of losing their current coverage.
Maryland Medicare Supplement Birthday Rule
Maryland residents may replace their current Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan once per calendar year starting the actual day of their birthday and end 30 days after.
Changing plans is done with Guarantee Issue - No medical exams, medical questions, waiting period, or underlying conditions may be considered.
Maryland policyholders may choose equal or lesser plan options, but cannot upgrade their coverage without medical underwriting.
You do not have to stay with the same company.
Maryland Medicare supplement policyholders with less than preferred rates may also reapply for lower preferred rates and save money.
You must already have a Medicare Supplement policy in effect.
West Virginia Medicare Supplement Birthday Rule
West Virginia residents may replace their current Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan once per calendar year starting the actual day of the individual’s birthday and end 60 days after.
Changing plans is done with Guarantee Issue - No medical exams, medical questions, waiting period, or underlying conditions may be considered.
West Virginia policyholders may choose equal or lesser plan options, but cannot upgrade their coverage without medical underwriting.
You must already have a Medicare Supplement policy in effect.
